Nathan Roberts “Nate”
CFI

Nathan first started his career path as a lab technician in a hospital near Dallas, Texas.  Although he was successful at his position for 7 years, Nathan desired for something more adventurous and rewarding. While working fulltime at the hospital, Nathan periodically came into contact with the EMS Helicopters bringing in critical patients. Since his first encounter with the helicopter and pilots, Nathan knew that being a helicopter pilot was a once in a lifetime opportunity and something he had to pursue.

Nathan took his first discovery flight in Addison, Texas and never looked back. Nathan immediately knew that he was made for this career choice. He enrolled in flight school at Addison Airport and received his Private and Instrument ratings in the Schweizer 300 within a year and a half, all while working fulltime at the hospital. Now, Nate is a full-time pilot who has received his Commercial, CFI, and R44 CFI endorsement all at high altitude levels here in Denver Colorado. Nate has a variety of experience in helicopters including the EC120, Schweizer 333, R44 and the Schweitzer 300C/CB/CBi.

Nathan continues to add to his training as he is currently working on his CFII rating and working toward his Bachelor of Science Degree in Aviation at Utah Valley University. Nate is very excited about his career as a helicopter pilot and the opportunities he has for advancement where the market is wide opened and the demand is high.

Nathan’s Words:

“It’s so nice to wake up every morning excited to go to work. Even though being a pilot is challenging, there are definitely rewards for my position. Coming from sea level to high altitude has given me the ability to gain experience in different and more difficult flight conditions;  I have become a better pilot for it.

I used to see helicopter pilots every day when I worked at the hospital; I never believed I would soon be one of them. It was a daring decision to make but it was the best decision of my life. Being an instructor at Colorado Heli-Ops has given me the opportunity to utilize my skills, advance my career, improve my training techniques and put me in contact with others in the industry that will help me advance in my career.

Being an instructor here has instilled in me a higher standard for safety, knowledge and most importantly to have fun with my career. The environment is very laidback, family -friendly, fun, intriguing and transparent. There is such a camarderie here among the pilots and students where everyone is welcome and no one is left out or looked down upon. The training environment makes everybody involved a better pilot; from the instructor to the student, no one is too good to continue learning.

One of our mottos here at Heli-Ops is “Check your ego at the door”; as an instructor, this is what I want my students to learn, while encouraging them and providing them with the tools they need to exhort their accomplishments. My job is to motivate my students to learn, accomplish and advance to better opportunities;  I love every minute of it.”
