PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Private Pilot Certificate program is for the person who wants to learn to fly a helicopter and use their certificate to fly for personal use and pleasure.
- A Private pilot can carry passengers but not for compensation or hire! (you need a Commercial Certificate for that)
- A Private pilot could own and operate their own helicopter.
- Medical certificate requirements are less than for a Commercial certificate.
This certificate is also the first step you would take in becoming a Commercial or Professional Helicopter Pilot.
Heli-Ops training will include flight and ground training in a modern system including evolving FAA requirements of Risk Management within a Safety Management System at no additional costs.
Accidents statistics show that Private pilots and private helicopter owners have a high accident rate when trained outside of the above mentioned systems. Heli-Ops training is aimed at addressing and eliminating these accidents. Learn to fly yourself, family and friends safely as a Private pilot.

COURSE PREREQUISITES & STEPS
- Be at least 17 years of age. Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language.
- Take a physical from an FAA certified examiner receiving a 1st Class, 2nd Class or 3rd Class Medical Certificate.To be eligible for your Private Pilot Certificate, you are required to have a 3rd Class Medical. Your student pilot certificate is located on the back of your medical certificate; they are on the same sheet of paper.
- Pass a written knowledge test to FAA standards (we will help you with the training and knowledge for this).
- Fulfill the minimum requirements of flight time and ground training specified by the FAA (see below).
- Pass an oral, and flight test (Practical test) given by the FAA or an approved Designated Pilot Examiner.

For a helicopter rating:- A person who applies for a private pilot certificate with rotorcraft category and heli training from an authorized instructor and 10 hours of solo flight training in the areas of operation listed in Sec. 61.107(b)(3) of the FARs, and the training must include at least: Three hours of cross-country flight training in a helicopter three hours of night flight training in a helicopter that includes–
- One cross-country flight of over 50 nautical miles total distance; and 10 takeoffs and 10 landings to a full stop (with each landing involving a flight in the traffic pattern) at an airport.
- Three hours of flight training in preparation for the practical test in a helicopter, which must have been performed within 60 days preceding the date of the test;
- 10 hours of solo flight time in a helicopter, consisting of at least–three hours cross-country time;
- One solo cross-country flight of at least 100 nautical miles total distance, with landings at a minimum of three points, and one segment of the flight being a straight-line distance of at least 25 nautical miles between the takeoff and landing locations;
- Three takeoffs and three landings to a full stop (with each landing involving a flight in the traffic pattern) at an airport with an operating control tower
